Vacation options on the northern Caribbean Coast are primarily rustic
accommodations,
with a few choices for comfort and luxury. There are plenty of tour
guides
and naturalists that will take you on boat rides through the Tortuguero
Canals
for birdwatching. You may also spot crocodiles, or the elusive
endangered
manatee. The sea turtle conservation projects at Tortuguero are an
excellent
way to volunteer and learn about the marine life of the Caribbean coast.
Puerto Limon is the main tourist hub in the central Caribbean region,
with
the country's largest port for import and export, as well as beautiful
beaches
and interesting nightlife with an Afro-Caribbean flair.
Along the southern Caribbean coast are a multitude of activities for
tourists
to enjoy. Puerto Viejo, Cahuita and Gandoca Manzanillo offer plenty of
beaches,
with surfing, scuba diving and coral reefs, restaurants and small
rustic
hotels. You can find tour guides and nature reserves, horseback riding,
mountain
biking, and boat tours for dolphin viewing.
