The north Pacific coast of Costa Rica has many of the best known beaches
in the country, with a variety of hotels and resorts that cater to many different
budgets and tastes.
Sometimes known as the Gold Coast, there are many miles of coastline and
hundreds of small beaches, coves and bays to choose from. Some Guanacaste
beaches have perfect waves for those who like to surf, others have calm waters
for snorkeling and sailing. Close in to the shore, you will find some of
the best sport fishing in the world.
Your Costa Rica beach vacation can include surfing,
fishing, swimming, sailing, or tanning: whatever your favorite beach activity
is! With low coastal mountains and lush jungle that grows right to the edge
of the beach, you will find rugged beauty and incredible wildlife to
add excitement and adventure to your beach vacation.
Within just a couple of hours drive from the new International Airport at
Liberia (Daniel Oduber), you will find plenty of choices for lodging and accommodations.
If you prefer to be pampered, there are luxury hotels and all-inclusive resorts
in the Papagayo Gulf at the beautiful beach areas of Flamingo-Potrero and
Coco-Panama. Quickly becoming synonymous with surfing and nightlife
is Tamarindo Beach and it's protected sea-turtle nesting site at Playa Grande.
For a quiet and secluded experience, head to Nosara's excellent surfing at
Guiones Beach and Playa Pelada. Don't miss one of the largest mass-nesting
beaches in the world for the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles, Ostional
Wildlife Refuge. The perfect calm bays at Samara and Playa Carrillo are incomparably
picturesque. All along the coastline of Guanacaste beaches, you will find small inviting hotels, cabins,
bed and breakfasts, condos and beach houses for rent.
